About this Issue

Scarlet Witch (2024) #5 marks a deliberate narrative pivot in Steve Orlando's extended run with Wanda Maximoff, shifting gears after the cosmos-shaking Griever arc to deliver a self-contained team-up that plants seeds for the series' next chapter. The issue is the first comic appearance of the supporting character Mia, who factors into the title's subsequent storylines. Narratively it also functions as a connective tissue issue, drawing threads from the Bricklayer's debut in Crypt of Shadows (2023) #1 into the main series continuity while using Daredevil's exorcism expertise — drawn directly from his contemporary solo title — to showcase Orlando's commitment to Marvel Universe cohesion. As the concluding issue of what would be collected as the 'Queen of Chaos' trade paperback, it closes out the first phase of this volume of Wanda's solo adventures before the introduction of her new apprentice, Amaranth.

History

Issue #5 is part of Steve Orlando's continuous, multi-volume stewardship of Wanda Maximoff, a run that traces back through the 2023 Scarlet Witch series and the Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver miniseries. This volume of the series launched in June 2024, with Orlando joined on this specific issue by interior artist Lorenzo Tammetta — a collaborator from the Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver miniseries — and colorist Frank William; the regular cover was provided by Russell Dauterman, who served as cover artist across the entire run. The Bricklayer subplot woven into the issue was seeded by Orlando himself in Crypt of Shadows (2023) #1, demonstrating a level of long-range editorial planning across satellite titles. Editor Alanna Smith shepherded the issue, with C.B. Cebulski serving as Editor-in-Chief.
