Sad Sack Comics #75

Harvey Comics' beloved everyman soldier is front and center in this 1957 installment of Sad Sack, "Loved by Millions" as the cover proudly declares. George Baker's cover art captures the hapless Sad Sack standing dazed amid stars and sparks, arms raised in bewilderment, while a rocket or missile blasts off behind him and an irate officer points accusingly — all of them seemingly oblivious to the very large alligator lying at their feet. It's a wonderfully absurd military moment that showcases Baker's warm, rubbery cartooning style at its most cheerfully chaotic.
