In "The Protectors," Jo, a gruff Army officer, takes it upon himself to enforce the rules—first by reprimanding a woodsman for felling a tree on Army property, then by stomping off in a tank to report him, leaving a trail of destroyed trees in his wake.

In "Big Fat Mouth," the Sarge loses his hearing from cannon fire, and Jo, seizing the chance, starts mocking him with impunity—until the doctor cures the Sarge and Jo remains blissfully unaware. The fallout of his unchecked insults quickly lands him in the guard house, where the real trouble begins.

In "Mix-up," Sarge, eager to reclaim his grumpy disposition after a vitamin pill knocks him out, insists that Sack track down the rest of the medicine while he's away. When Sack hands him the wrong pill, Sarge dozes off during a hike, leaving the men stranded in a marsh. Waking up to find himself locked in the guardhouse, Sarge's frustration only grows—especially when he realizes he's not the only one who's been misled.
