Harvey's beloved everyman soldier returns in this July 1962 installment of Sad Sack, "loved by millions" as the cover proudly proclaims. George Baker's cover finds the hapless Sad Sack reeling with stars and swirls around his head while his meal has gone spectacularly wrong — a small bird perches atop a broken egg in a cup, dishes scattered at his feet — as a grinning Sergeant strolls over carrying a fresh tray and a cook looks on with dismay from the kitchen window, a dog lurking nearby for any scraps. It's the kind of gentle, good-natured military humor that made this series a fixture on spinner racks throughout the early 1960s.
