“Blows against the Empire!”

In "Blows against the Empire!", Rom faces a new threat when a Shi'ar warship carrying a mysterious force sphere is attacked by a rogue Space Knight. With the ship's doctor, Tyreseus, joining the fight after his people's history with the Shi'ar, chaos erupts—leading to Rom and his allies being wrongly accused by the Imperial Guard. Written by Bill Mantlo and illustrated with sharp precision by Steve Ditko, this annual blends interstellar intrigue with personal stakes, all rendered in striking colors by Petra Scotese and sharp lettering by Janice Chiang. The cover, by Bob Layton, captures the moment of confrontation with dramatic flair.

A Shi'ar warship transports a force sphere on board only to find it contains a rogue Space Knight who immediately attacks. They take Pulsar down but the ship's doctor, Tyreseus, whose race was subjugated by the Shi'ar, merges with the armor and renews the battle. When the Imperial Guard arrive to investigate the destruction of their ships, they encounter Rom and his fellow Space Knights in the vicinity and arrest them. Finally able to convince Gladiator of their innocence, Rom agrees to help track and stop Pulsar. Gladiator uses a star gate to send Rom home to Galador.
