Rom and the X-Men: Marvel Tales #1

Feb 2024 · Marvel · 7.99 USD
“Hybrid!”

"Hybrid!" brings together two iconic Marvel universes in a pulse-pounding crossover that kicks off with Cerebro detecting a mysterious new mutant signal. Professor X sends the X-Men to Clairton, where Rom and the townspeople are uncovering a terrifying truth: their neighbors are Dire Wraiths in disguise, including Jacob Marks, a man torn between his Wraith nature and his love for his human wife—whose son, a human/Wraith hybrid, is dangerously weakened. As Rom fights the monstrous Hybrid, the X-Men arrive to find a robot attacking a child, leading them to misjudge the situation entirely. Written by Bill Mantlo, Sal Buscema, and Chris Claremont, with art by Sal Buscema and colors by Ben Sean, the issue features a cover by Nick Bradshaw.

Cerebro detects a powerful new mutant and Professor X sends the X-Men to investigate. Their destination is the town of Clairton where Rom and the town folk are just discovering that many of their friends and neighbors are Dire Wraith's in disguise. They head to the Marks' farm where Jacob confesses that he is a Wraith but is in love with his human wife whom their son, a human/Wraith hybrid has drained almost to death. Rom battles the monstrous Hybrid but, when the X-Men show up and see a killer robot beating on what appears to be a little boy, they decide that Rom is the bad guy.
