Robin #64

Robin and an bearded villain hang upside-down, suspended in what looks like an inescapable trap, while two smirking henchmen look on below — all bathed in an eerie green glow. The cover's clever meta-twist is right there in the speech bubbles: Robin despairs that they can't possibly escape, and his captor cheerfully notes that thankfully none of this actually happens in the story. Chuck Dixon, Staz Johnson, and Stan Woch bring a wonderfully self-aware sense of humor to this 1999 issue, and with a title like "Stop Me If You've Heard This One," it's clear Robin #64 is ready to have some fun with its own conventions.
