“Dog City Part 2”

This second issue of Dark Horse's Roachmill announces itself with a cover that's hard to look away from — a massive, snarling insectoid creature with blazing yellow eyes, dripping fangs, and antennae looms over the deep blue background, clutching something in its clawed hand while two "no bug" prohibition signs frame the image with dark humor. Rich Hedden's pencils and Tom McWeeney's inks deliver a genuinely unsettling close-up that balances grotesque horror with a sharp satirical wink. With "Dog City Part 2" continuing the story inside, this 1988 Dark Horse series was clearly carving out its own twisted corner of the comics landscape.
