“Dog City Part 1”

Dark Horse's 1988 series launches with this striking cover by Rich Hedden and Tom McWeeney, depicting a battered, defiant warrior gripping what appears to be a grotesque creature while surrounded on all sides by a snarling horde of monstrous, fang-filled beasts. The blood spattering the ground and the sheer number of creatures closing in make it clear this is a hero already deep in the fight. "Dog City Part 1" promises the kind of gritty, pulpy action that made Dark Horse an exciting alternative voice in late-'80s comics.
