DC's Rip Hunter… Time Master #15 (1963) throws its crew five million years into the past — and straight into a cage. Bill Ely's cover depicts two towering, scaly prehistoric creatures confronting a group of trapped humans, with speech bubbles making it deliciously clear that these ancient beings can speak and consider us the primitive ones. It's a wonderfully unsettling role reversal that captures exactly the kind of imaginative time-travel storytelling this series did so well.
