Simon Pure — a battle-worn British soldier in a tattered red coat — kneels defiantly in a graveyard, surrounded by armed assailants closing in with blades, while his own gravestone looms behind him bearing his name and a list of death dates stretching across the centuries. Geoff Johns and Bryan Hitch's Redcoat wastes no time establishing its darkly inventive premise: a man who seemingly cannot stay dead, haunted by a past that keeps trying to bury him. This second issue from Image's Ghost Machine imprint looks to be every bit as atmospheric and energetic as its striking cover promises.
