Sonja rides into the town of Lur where a Black Tower has sprung up overnight striking fear into its residents. Two people emerge from the Tower and Fergar Tolt slays the man and attempts to rape the woman when Sonja lends a hand. Sonja maims Fengar and defeats his band. One of them, Bilas Mar, then seizes the opportunity to declare the Tower's inhabitants gods.
