Red Sonja #9

Marvel's "She-Devil with a Sword" faces one of her most visually striking challenges in this 1978 entry — the cover by Frank Thorne places Red Sonja sprawled across what appears to be a dark chariot, sword in hand, as a hulking green demon looms over her with a blade, while fiery stallions rage in the inferno behind them. The story title "Chariot of the Fire-Stallions!" promises the kind of sword-and-sorcery spectacle that made this series a favorite of Conan-era Marvel fans, and Thorne handles every line of pencils, inks, and color himself, giving the cover a unified, raw energy all his own. Writers Roy Thomas and Clair Noto round out the creative team for what looks to be a wild ride through fire and fury.
