Red Sonja #8
Frank Thorne's cover for this March 1978 Marvel issue is a gloriously chaotic tableau — Red Sonja, flame-haired and sword in hand, stands defiant at the center of a massive coiling serpent, surrounded by a menagerie of grotesque figures including armed warriors, monstrous creatures, and a jewel-helmed fallen figure at her feet. The banner promise of "The Serpent Is a Sorceress!" and "Fire and Fury in the Age of Conan!" sets an appropriately grand Hyborian mood. Roy Thomas, Clara Noto, and Frank Thorne — handling virtually every creative role himself — deliver what looks to be one of the She-Devil with a Sword's more densely packed adventures of her solo run.
