This 1977 Marvel issue puts Red Sonja front and center in a breathtaking cover by Frank Thorne, her flaming red hair wild as she stands defiantly armed with a sword and axe, surrounded on all sides by a writhing horde of green, fanged lake creatures — with a dark-haired male companion fighting at her back. Titled "The Lurkers in the Lake," the cover promises exactly the kind of sword-and-sorcery mayhem that made this series a standout in the Age of Conan era. With Thorne handling pencils, inks, colors, and lettering, and Roy Thomas and Clara Noto crafting the story, this is a satisfyingly complete creative vision from a single gifted team.
