History

The Red Hulk ongoing series was conceived by writer Benjamin Percy specifically for the One World Under Doom event, with Percy pitching a story in which Thunderbolt Ross's dual identity as soldier and living weapon would make him Doctor Doom's ideal captive. Percy and artist Geoff Shaw reunited for the project after their collaboration on the 'Sabretooth War' arc in Wolverine (2020) and an earlier Wolverine/Ghost Rider: Weapons of Vengeance crossover. Series editor Mark Paniccia oversaw the book, and a prelude to the series ran in Incredible Hulk #19 — the milestone 800th Hulk issue — establishing Ross's covert pre-imprisonment activities. The series launched in February 2025, timed deliberately to coincide with Harrison Ford's live-action portrayal of Thunderbolt Ross as Red Hulk in Marvel Studios' Captain America: Brave New World.
