"The Curse of the Snake Goddess" follows Miss Prentice and Mr. Foster unpacking treasures from the Wentworth Expedition, discovering a mysterious tablet within a mummy case that scientists plan to study overnight, with sinister implications hinted at. "The Werewolf/Vampire Wolf" is a 19th-century tale depicting folklore and supernatural creatures substantiated by the gruesome art of Able Wurtz, told through chalk drawings on a kitchen table. "The Bierce Story" concludes with scientist Mr. Bierce mysteriously restored to life on his 300th birthday as a gift from his wife Cecile, after macabre arts have apparently taken hold.
During a violent storm, lightning strikes a wax museum's horror chamber, and through a mysterious convergence of electrical forces and a creator's meticulous craftsmanship, one of Charles Ogle's masterwork figures—a scarred phantom—inexplicably animates and walks into the night. Hunted by police who find their bullets pass through it harmlessly, the living wax creature follows only the basest instinct until the California sun threatens to undo everything Ogle built. Now Ogle himself must confront what his perfectionism has wrought, and wrestles with a terrible temptation to reshape his creation once more.
