Preacher #12

Glenn Fabry's cover for Preacher #12 is a visceral, vertigo-inducing image — a grotesquely decaying, screaming figure trails flames and shredded flesh as it plunges downward toward a darkened rural house far below, bathed in hellish orange light against a night sky. The sheer scale of the figure looming over that tiny building gives the composition a genuinely unsettling, almost apocalyptic weight. Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon's mature-readers Vertigo series was firing on all cylinders in 1996, and this issue — "Until the End of the World" — promises exactly the kind of Southern Gothic dread the title was known for delivering.
