When the stationmaster is away, Poppo assists the old man in using a single bull to accomplish the work of a steam locomotive, pulling a train and stopping it with an emergency brake. The story culminates with Poppo riding the bull across a weakened bridge during a storm, and the old worker regales onlookers with tall tales about Poppo's increasingly absurd exploits—including a cowboy climbing a saloon roof for drinks, a man cutting a hole in his rug to see a floor show, and the bull's head becoming scrambled from Poppo's antics.
Poppo builds a rocking seesaw for Bumpy and Ginger Allen, but when a letter arrives inviting the kids to visit their grandmother for the weekend, the clown finds himself scrambling to get them to the station on time—complete with a borrowed jalopy full of trick buttons and all the mishaps that come with it. It's a race against the clock filled with Poppo's signature chaos as he tries to deliver the kids and their luggage to the departing train.
Poppo and an aging stationmaster named Elmer rush to stop a train heading toward a collapsed bridge after the telegraph lines go down during a terrible storm. With their car broken down, they resort to an old handcar and find themselves pursued by an ornery bull across the railway tracks. When a jammed switch threatens to derail their rescue mission, Poppo gets a wild idea: maybe they can use the bull's charging power to save the day.
When a dangerous storm threatens the railroad, Poppo uses a handcar to scout the treacherous route ahead of an oncoming train, testing a weakened bridge and navigating flooded tracks to keep everyone safe. As the self-appointed guardian of the rails, this clown must stay one step ahead of disaster—whether it's collapsing infrastructure, rising water, or the very earth itself—while the train crew learns that his comic antics mask genuine bravery and quick thinking.
Poppo springs into action when he spots an avalanche threatening a train full of passengers, but his frantic warnings go unheeded until the disaster strikes. Using quick thinking and sheer determination, Poppo and his friend Elmer work together to save the train and everyone aboard—though not before facing down an angry bull and a host of other obstacles. Along the way, Elmer discovers that being useful has nothing to do with age, and that true friendship means following through when it matters most.
