Poppo of the Popcorn Theatre #12

Poppo the clown agrees to watch a neighbor's dog, Frisky, while the owner is out of town—but when the dog's license renewal costs more than Poppo has on hand, Frisky ends up at the dog pound instead. With the dog catcher Jake sidelined by a toothache that Poppo's well-intentioned (but disastrous) tricks only made worse, our hapless hero finds himself left in charge of the pound just as complications keep piling up.

When Poppo finds a stray dog at the pound and teaches it circus tricks, he becomes convinced it's a trained performer—but its rightful owner, Mrs. Wonderwood, arrives to claim her beloved Mimi, complete with newspaper ads and a reward. After reluctantly surrendering the dog and receiving the promised hundred dollars, Poppo makes a generous decision that sets off a chain reaction of hilarious consequences throughout town.

When Poppo innocently accepts a hundred-dollar reward and buys dog licenses for a pack of strays, he discovers he's now legally responsible for all ten of them—and the town's dog catcher demands they be off the streets by six o'clock. With help from Bumpy Allen and Ginger Allen, Poppo launches a frantic race against the clock to round up his new furry charges before the deadline strikes.

When Poppo accidentally frees twenty-five dogs from the pound and later gets tangled up in a mix-up involving a circus dog, Mrs. Wonderwood's lost pet, and Dr. Dimple's failing tonic business, he finds himself in a race against time to save a sick pup from a grim fate. With help from an old circus friend, Poppo pulls off a heartwarming rescue that leads to an unexpected twist—one that proves his love of dogs might have its limits after all.
