A carnival night takes a delightfully spooky turn in this 2012 IDW issue, as the cover — penciled and inked by Vince Musacchia — shows Popeye's father Poopdeck Pappy riding a roller coaster car with a blonde woman in a polka-dot dress, both reacting with shock as an enormous green sea-serpent-like creature looms open-mouthed beside them. Up on a higher section of the ride, Popeye himself grips the safety bar alongside a wide-eyed companion, pipe clenched in his teeth, blissfully unaware of what's lurking below. With Roger Langridge's story promising something called "Vamped! Or The Fall of Poopdeck Pappy," there's clearly mischief and maybe a touch of the supernatural mixed in with the funhouse fun.
