“Shop Talk”

In "Shop Talk," Li'l Jinx's feud with the new neighbor girl Alice takes an unexpected turn when her father tries to teach her about getting along—only to accidentally provoke Alice’s father, George, who’s distracted by a story about local kidnappers. Written and illustrated by Joe Edwards, this 1949 slice of small-town life sees the two fathers misjudging each other, leading to a comical clash that escalates from archery practice to full-on rivalry—until the girls step in to settle things. The cover by Bob Montana captures the moment with his signature charm, a 10-cent glimpse into a classic Archie-era moment.

Li'l Jinx is fighting with the new neighbor girl Alice. This upsets Li'l Jinx's father who tells her she has to learn how to get along with new people and he decides to show her how it's done. Alice's mother sees him talking to Alice and tells George, who's reading about local kidnappers. George punches him in the face. The two men realize it was a mistake and shake hands. Unable to make the girls do the same they decide to take the other's daughter and practice archery, which escalates into the fathers fighting again, and their daughters apologize to each other for their father's hot tempers.
