“Trouble Afoot”

Pep #247 brings the Riverdale gang to the tennis court for some sun-soaked, racket-swinging chaos — courtesy of cover pencils by Dan DeCarlo and inks by Rudy Lapick. The scene says it all: Archie has gotten himself tangled up in the net, earning a sharp quip from a dark-haired umpire perched above — "Archie, I told you to play close to the net, but not that close!" — while Betty, Veronica, and the rest of the crew look on with amusement. Rounding out the fun, the title banner features the whole beach-ready gang lounging across the bold red "PEP" logo, making this November 1970 issue a warm slice of Archie humor at its most cheerfully absurd.
