Peacemaker Tries Hard! #5

The fifth and final chapter of Kyle Starks and Steve Pugh's DC Black Label series arrives with a cover by Kris Anka that perfectly captures the absurdist heart of the whole run: a massively built, chrome-helmeted Peacemaker stands arms crossed and stone-faced while a swarm of baby versions of his white-haired, eye-patched nemesis crawls all over him — on his shoulders, tugging at his belt, clutching a bottle. Jordie Bellaire's warm palette makes the whole ridiculous tableau feel oddly endearing. If you've been following Peacemaker's increasingly chaotic efforts to do right, this 2023 sendoff looks like it delivers the payoff in gloriously strange fashion.
