“Stunt Flyer”

In "Stunt Flyer," the ever-resourceful Heckle and Jeckle attempt to cash in on their latest invention—the Magic Telegraph Box, which promises to "telegraph PEOPLE instead of MESSAGES." With a wild scheme to send one another across the globe, they quickly find fame and fortune, only to discover that even the most clever gadgets can't outsmart the chaos they unleash. Art by Jim Tyer, this 1952 St. John classic captures the duo’s trademark slapstick antics in a story that’s equal parts invention, misadventure, and classic cartoon charm.

Destitute and looking for a fast buck, Heckle and Jeckle construct a Magic Telegraph Box that "will telegraph PEOPLE instead of MESSAGES" and test it out by "telegraphing" Heckle to China, where he returns with chop suey as proof of his journey. They mass-produce the boxes and make a fortune off of the multitudes who wish to travel rapidly and cheaply. The inevitable flaws in the Magpies' plans soon reveal themselves, leaving them as broke as they began the story.
