Ozma of Oz #7
The penultimate chapter of Marvel's eight-part adaptation of L. Frank Baum's classic story puts two of Oz's most endearing characters front and center — a wide-eyed, stitched-mouthed Scarecrow dominates the cover, with a self-satisfied yellow hen perched regally atop his haystack hair. Skottie Young's characteristically loose, expressive linework gives both figures a delightful scruffiness, while Jean-François Beaulieu's warm, weathered palette lends the whole image a storybook charm that lives up to the series' all-ages billing. With Eric Shanower's adaptation one issue from its conclusion, this is a wonderful snapshot of the creative team at the top of their game.
