Outcasts #12

The twelve-issue "Future Shocker" reaches its finale with Outcasts #12, subtitled "The Last Outcast" — and Cam Kennedy's cover art sets an appropriately ominous tone. A solitary white-haired figure sits before a massive glass dome, inside which a dark, grotesquely organic mass looms and drips, flanked by hulking mechanical machinery on either side — a quietly unsettling image that speaks volumes about what Wagner and Grant's post-apocalyptic series has been building toward. It's a striking send-off for one of DC's grittier 1988 sci-fi experiments.
