One-Star Squadron #3

The midpoint of this six-issue limited series arrives with one of 2022's most quietly funny covers: a red-costumed hero clutching a life preserver ring in the middle of a dark, choppy sea, one arm raised and a speech bubble plaintively reading "A little help, please?" — surrounded by several more life rings and floating debris labeled "HERO74." Steve Lieber's art perfectly captures the series' comedic sensibility, staging a superhero in genuine distress against a vast, indifferent ocean with deadpan wit. Mark Russell and Lieber's One-Star Squadron continues to find real heart in the humbler corners of the DC Universe, and "Room and Board" looks to keep that balance of laughs and pathos firmly intact.
