“The Awakening”

Teenager Keith Remsen awakens from a coma during the White Event with the power to enter and manipulate the dreams of others with his younger sister, Teddy, acting as his anchor to the real world. Weeks earlier as he was waiting to board a plane to Switzerland to study at the Kleinmann Institute, an assassin had used a luggage bomb to kill his parents, put his sister in a wheelchair, and put Keith himself in a coma. Keith, as Nightmask, enters the dreams of his parents' assassin to find out why he was sent and who sent him. In the dream, Keith is confronted by the Gnome who he identifies as Dr. Horst Kleinmann himself. Kleinmann reveals that he ordered the assassination because he thought the Remsens were sending Keith as a spy to learn the secrets of Kleinmann's dream research. The assassin dies but Teddy pulls Keith out in time while Kleinmann manages to escape on his own.
