Nightcrawler #1
This collection kicks off the 2014 Nightcrawler series by Chris Claremont and Todd Nauck, following Kurt Wagner's return to the X-Men after his death and resurrection. The story explores his reconnection with old friends and his Catholic faith, while a mysterious new villain targets him. It collects issues #1-5 of the series.
In "Can We Go Home Again?", Nightcrawler faces a haunting return when Trimega manifests in three forms, each wielding distinct powers, forcing Margali to confront her past. With Kurt and Amanda seeking sanctuary at the X-Men school, Margali’s true intentions unfold as she casts a spell on Beast and Storm, leaving them eerily diminished. As the threat escalates, a far greater horde of Trimegas descends upon the school. Written by Chris Claremont and illustrated by Todd Nauck, with vibrant colors by Rachelle Rosenberg and sharp lettering by Cory Petit, the issue’s dynamic art is matched by Chris Samnee’s striking cover.
In "null," Nightcrawler grapples with life after his resurrection, navigating the shifting dynamics at the X-Men school. When he visits his old flame Amanda, they’re suddenly ambushed by the enigmatic Trimega, forcing them to flee to Margali Szardos for answers.
In "Can We Go Home Again?", Nightcrawler returns to the traveling carnival Der Jahrmarkt with Amanda, hoping to reconnect with old friends and find Margali—only to be met with suspicion and hostility when the performers believe he’s an imposter. As the truth of his return begins to unfold, the fragile peace shatters with the sudden reappearance of Trimega, threatening to unravel everything they’ve rebuilt.
In "If at First You Don't Succeed... ... Tri, Trimega Again!", Nightcrawler faces a terrifying escalation when Trimega returns—not as one, but as three distinct forms, each wielding unique powers. As Kurt tries to protect the school, Margali’s true intentions surface when she uses a spell on Beast and Storm, leaving them powerless and reduced to sketches. Just as Amanda begins to grasp what her mother is planning, a far greater threat emerges in the form of an overwhelming wave of Trimegas.
In "null," Nightcrawler faces a haunting confrontation when Amanda uncovers Margali’s dark plan to exploit the World Beyond, a realm beyond death. As the Trimegas attack and a portal tears open, Amanda must make a desperate choice to close it—crossing into the unknown, leaving Nightcrawler behind.
In "null," Nightcrawler and his student Rico race to save Ziggy from the Crimson Pirates, who've taken her captive with the intent to sell her to the notorious Tullamore Voge. With stealth and heart, the pair mount a daring rescue, bringing Ziggy back to the safety of the Jean Grey School.
