New Warriors: Reality Check #[nn]
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThis collection kicks off the 2006 New Warriors series with a 'Reality Check' for the team, as Night Thrasher (Dwayne Taylor) assembles a new roster of young heroes including Nova (Richard Rider), Speedball (Robbie Baldwin), Namorita, and Microbe. They face threats from classic Marvel villains like the Controller, the Mad Thinker, and Tiger Shark, while grappling with the legacy of their predecessors and the public's perception of super-powered youth. The story sets the stage for the controversial events that would later involve the team in the Civil War storyline.
In "Pilot," the New Warriors land in the unnervingly pristine town of Nuponder, where a cheerful nuclear power plant keeps everyone smiling—until pets start vanishing, snatched by none other than Terrax the Tamer. With the team caught off guard and a reality show twist thrown in by TV execs, the arrival of the sharp-tongued Debrii adds instant friction to an already strange situation. Written by Zeb Wells and brought to life with vibrant, energetic art by Skottie Young—pencils, inks, and colors—on a cover also by Young, this issue blends suburban surrealism with superhero chaos in a way that feels both fresh and oddly familiar.

The Warriors arrive in the super clean, extra friendly town of Nuponder where the nuclear powered Nucar Power Plant keeps everyone happy, but the local residents have been experiencing a rash of missing pets who are being kidnapped by, of all people, Terrax the Tamer. Without consulting Thrasher or the Warriors, the TV execs introduce Debrii, a heroine with a smart mouth and a bad attitude, to the team for a little reality show controversy.
