New Avengers #15
Spider-Woman hangs inverted at the center of this striking 2006 cover, her long black hair cascading downward as she's suspended within a tangle of webbing, surrounded by crawling spiders — Frank Cho's linework giving the whole image an eerie, intimate tension. The composition is quietly unsettling in the best way, turning a familiar hero upside-down both literally and atmospherically. Brian Michael Bendis's New Avengers was firing on all cylinders at this point in its run, and this issue promises more of the bold, character-driven storytelling the series had become known for.
