“Double Cross”

Part of Marvel's 1991 "50 Years of Captain America" publishing initiative, this issue of Namor the Sub-Mariner wastes no time setting a chaotic mood — the cover by John Byrne depicts a green-skinned giant wielding the Thing's rocky fist like a weapon, while a blonde woman in a green outfit recoils nearby, a winged figure carries Namor through a stormy sky, and dinosaurs and horned beasts stampede across a vivid, otherworldly landscape. The bold tagline "Double Cross" promises betrayal at the heart of whatever wild adventure is unfolding. Byrne, handling writing, art, inks, and lettering himself, was clearly firing on all cylinders during this run.
