My Own Romance #20
In "None Are So Blind," a 1952 gem from My Own Romance, Jane’s quiet insecurities take center stage as she grapples with self-perception and the illusion of glamour. With art by Bernie Krigstein and inks by Sol Brodsky, the story unfolds with emotional honesty, spotlighting a moment of clarity when Jane’s mother’s old friend, movie star Gloria de Carlo, visits in person—revealing a truth far removed from the screen. The cover by Al Hartley captures the era’s romantic idealism, while the interior art brings a rare depth to a romance comic of its time.

Jane considers herself “plain” and thinks any boy who asks her for a date just feels sorry for her. She wishes she was as glamourous as movie star Gloria de Carlo. Gloria is an old friend of Jane’s mother and visits one day, but is much less beautiful than in the movies. Gloria says beauty comes from within and Jane resolves to try it. Soon she is going steady with Timmy, who’d always liked her before, but now she can accept it.
