In "Red Hearts and Black Gold!", Skippy takes a break from her whirlwind life as a reporter’s daughter to spend a week on the quiet Darrow farm, seeking peace far from the city’s chaos. When her father Joe and her boyfriend Bill conspire to lure her back to the newsroom with a fake plane crash story, she realizes her heart belongs to the press—and to Bill. A charming, character-driven tale from 1951, illustrated with warmth and wit by Lin Streeter, with a cover by Christopher Rule.

Skippy assists her father Joe, a famous reporter, and dates reporter Bill. On a trip to a rural area, Skippy gets lost and winds up on the Darrow farm, which she finds calm and peaceful compared to her normal hectic life. She bets Joe and Bill she can spend a week on the farm, away from the news business, but grows bored and is tricked into leaving when she hears a story about a plane crash. It was just a ruse by Joe and Bill to remind her of her true calling. Skippy decides she’ll marry Bill, own a newspaper, and have children who become reporters.
