Loretta meets ventriloquist Gene and his dummy Mr. Kelly, who rapidly become popular performers. Loretta falls in love with Gene and works as his secretary, but discovers that Gene is a “sick man” who thinks of Mr. Kelly as an actual person. While Gene is out, Loretta sets his cabin on fire and Mr. Kelly is destroyed. This actually makes Gene happy, as he’s now free to marry Loretta, and also becomes a legitimate actor.
