When Vern Albright needs to impress a high-profile client, he enlists his reluctant daughter Margie to show the man's son, Pancho, around town—but a series of exhaustingly cultured outings soon tests her patience to the limit. Just when things seem unbearable, Pancho's father hatches a scheme of his own, summoning his other son Sancho to New York to turn the tables on the advertising firm. When Vern Albright takes a mysterious phone call about a "dreamboat," his daughter Margie overhears and jumps to the worst possible conclusion—convinced her father is being targeted by a gold-digger. Determined to protect him, Margie enlists her worldly neighbor Mrs. Odetts to investigate, leading the two on a comedic stakeout that's about to turn the tables on their suspicions.

Margie decides that Freddie needs to overcome his fear of flying and arranges for a local pilot to take them up in an aeroplane—but when Freddie is left alone in the cockpit, he accidentally starts the engine and finds himself airborne with no idea how to land. With Fly-Boy Jackson coaching him by radio, Freddie attempts to follow instructions while Margie watches anxiously from the ground, only to discover that one harrowing flight may not be enough to cure him of his aviation jitters.
