“I Was Pursued by the Elements”

In "I Was Pursued by the Elements," the Sarge finds himself stranded in the Antarctic after a tractor mishap, only to be rescued by unexpected visitors from Pluto—tiny green beings in need of uranium to fix their ship. Written by Bill Ely, with art and inks by Bill Ely and letters by Stan Starkman, this 1959 tale blends cold isolation with cosmic wonder, setting up a mission that takes a sharp turn when Sarge’s unit is ordered to hunt down the very aliens they just helped. The cover by Bob Brown captures the eerie, frozen frontier with a sense of looming mystery.

The Sarge is with a unit attached to a group of government scientists working in the Antarctic, with the task of mapping out crevasses so the scientists can explore freely. Having driven his tractor into a crevasse, Sarge is about to give up hope when he's rescued by little green men from Pluto. Having landed on Earth for repairs, all they need is some uranium so they can head home. After they part ways, Sarge's unit is sent out to "seek and destroy" aliens in the Antarctic raiding uranium storage areas.
