Bud Fisher's beloved comedy duo tears across the cover of this June–July 1946 DC issue, with Mutt and Jeff's open-top automobile screeching to a white-knuckle halt at the edge of a cliff — hats flying, the tall Mutt grabbing his head in alarm while the diminutive Jeff deadpans, "Some brakes, huh, Mutt?" Cover artist Sheldon Mayer frames the chaos against a glowing full moon, giving the whole scene a wonderfully theatrical flair. At just ten cents, this is the kind of cheerful, gag-driven fun that made Mutt & Jeff a staple of American humor comics.
