Bud Fisher's beloved comedy duo is back in this 1944 Summer Issue, with cover art by Sheldon Mayer placing the lanky Mutt and the short, rotund Jeff precariously perched on a suspended scaffold high above a city skyline — and already bickering. Jeff, pipe in hand and smoke wafting away, insists his doctor told him to keep away from cigarettes, while a small striped cat shares the platform with an air of complete indifference to the height. It's the kind of deadpan, good-natured humor that made Mutt & Jeff a staple of American comics, all for a dime.
