Eve of the Elementals!" sets the stage for a bruising 1977 showdown as Ms. Marvel is slammed to the ground by a towering Earth Giant, its massive stone fists driving her down while a trio of costumed villains — masters of fire, water, and more — advance menacingly in the background. The cover, penciled by Sal Buscema and Marie Severin and inked by Frank Giacoia, crackles with kinetic energy, the dialogue box making clear our hero is outnumbered and outmatched — at least for now. Chris Claremont and Sal Buscema deliver the kind of elemental, against-the-odds setup that made Marvel's late-'70s output so compelling.
