Ms. Marvel #10
Ms. Marvel takes center stage in this October 1977 entry, her red-and-blue costume ablaze with action as she delivers a stunning blow to a massive MODOK — his grotesque mechanical headpiece crackling with impact energy. Below, the winged Deathbird swoops through a panicked shopping mall while fleeing civilians scatter, making good on the cover's bold promise that "the Female Fury fights all of A.I.M. and Deathbird too!" Sal Buscema's pencils and Tom Palmer's inks give the whole scene a wonderfully kinetic charge, and with the tagline "Murder, Menace & MODOK!" this one wastes no time signaling exactly the kind of ambitious, villain-packed adventure Chris Claremont was building for Carol Danvers.
