Motherlands #2

The tagline says it all — "The family that stays together slays together" — and this second issue of Vertigo's Motherlands leans right into that darkly playful tension. Eric Canete's cover frames two women in sharp contrast: a red-haired figure in tactical gear raising a heavy firearm with cool resolve, while a younger blonde woman below her looks up with wide, uncertain eyes and a bandaged cheek. It's a striking image that sets up a complicated dynamic between these two, and with Si Spurrier writing and Stephen Byrne on interiors, this 2018 series has the creative muscle to deliver on every bit of that promise.
