# Monte Hale Western #47 The issue contains multiple stories. In the main Monte Hale comic strip, fake Indians posing as warriors deceive a tribal chief by filling his peace pipe with rubberized tobacco, causing him to go into a rage and attack the camp, forcing Monte to patrol the telegraph line and investigate trouble at a construction shack near Gila Bend. A text story, "Gray Hawk," follows an Otapi youth who discovers a forest fire threatening his tribe's village; he races down the turbulent On-Ag-Na river in a canoe to warn the elders of the approaching danger before the flames can trap them in the mountain glade where their tepees stand.
