This is an anthology issue containing four stories. "Attack by the Poncas" is a Gray Hawk story by Dick Kraus in which young warrior Gray Hawk refuses to join his fellow Otapi youths in an ambush of Ponca warriors, choosing instead to follow them cautiously and discover their true numbers and intentions before committing to battle. "The River That Wouldn't Stay Put!" features Monte Hale and his horse Pardner navigating a treacherous flood caused by a tidal wave, racing against rising waters to reach safety on higher ground where other ranchers have taken refuge.
