Monkeyshines Comics #10

Ferdie the monkey finds himself stumped by the paradox of doing nothing—when he’s not doing anything, he can’t tell when he’s finished, leaving him anxious. Meanwhile, Harry the Horse is forced to fix a broken rope on the flag pole, but instead of complying, he daydreams of working in a brickyard and eventually builds a swing from dead branches, only to crash into the pole.

Nutty Squirrel tries to have a conversation with a distant friend, but the loud ringing of nearby bells makes it impossible to hear. As the bells continue to chime, he grows increasingly frustrated, wondering if anyone can hear him at all. The sound of the bells dominates everything, turning simple communication into a noisy struggle.

Pete the Peke is determined to protect his garden from a mischievous cat, so he builds a fence with sharpened boards—only to accidentally trap Harry the Horse, who’s just trying to help. As Pete’s increasingly elaborate defenses backfire, Harry finds himself caught in a chaotic game of cat-and-mouse, all while trying to keep the peace.

Tuffy Bear boasts to his friends about his famous hunter uncle, vowing to prove himself fit for a visit by training hard—pole-vaulting, swimming, and flexing his strength. But his overconfidence leads him straight into a dangerous situation when he ignores a warning sign and plunges into a drained creek, only to be rescued once again by his exasperated friends.

Country Mouse welcomes his city cousin with a home-cooked meal, boasting of simple country fare. Intrigued by tales of luxurious city cuisine, the city cousin convinces him to visit the city, only for the two to narrowly escape a cat in a dangerous kitchen. The story ends with Country Mouse deciding he’d rather return to the safety of the countryside, no matter how humble the food.
