This anthology issue contains three humorous animal stories. "Pete the Peke" follows a tired dog who attempts to relax with a book but is repeatedly chased and run down by a larger animal. "Fox and the Wolf: An Aesop's Fable" depicts a fox enjoying a leisurely picnic in the forest when it encounters a wolf with an appetite for grapes. A third story shows a character dealing with smoke in his house, attempting various solutions including opening doors for draft and eventually climbing out a basement window to escape the fire hazard.

Two feuding families—the Mouses and the Cats—wage a mountain feud so old that even Granpappy can't remember how it started, but that doesn't stop the bullets from flying. When young Hatfield and Coy fall in love across enemy lines, they attempt a desperate plan to end the bloodshed by burying all the ammunition they can find. However, their peace is short-lived when the truth about the feud's mysterious origin finally surfaces, threatening to reignite the conflict once and for all.

Auction Today
2 pp · Anthropomorphic-Funny Animals

Marmaduke Monk bids enthusiastically at an estate auction for a supposedly talented talking parrot—the pride of the late Sigmund Sawtooth's collection—driving the price up to seventy-five dollars. Once he gets his prized purchase home, things don't quite go as advertised, and Marmaduke learns a costly lesson about getting caught up in auction fever.

Fire Fire
5 pp · Anthropomorphic-Funny Animals

Harry the Horse would rather embrace the carefree life of a hobo than face the reality of returning home—until a chance encounter with fellow travelers challenges his romantic notion of freedom on the open road. Forced to confront what he's really running from, Harry discovers that the "knight of the road" fantasy might not be the escape he imagined. A wry take on the grass-is-greener mentality, with all the comic mishaps you'd expect from a horse trying to reinvent himself.
