Mnemovore #1
Vertigo's mature-readers line was home to some of the most unsettling comics of 2005, and Mnemovore #1 makes an immediate case for itself with a cover that's hard to shake. Mike Huddleston renders a red-haired woman with her head tilted back, eyes closed, while a mass of dark, tentacle-like tendrils fans out below her — riddled with glowing amber eyes that stare directly outward. Writers Hans Rodionoff and Ray Fawkes are clearly aiming for something that lives at the intersection of psychological dread and cosmic horror, and this opening issue promises a series with genuine atmosphere to spare.
