Mister Miracle #6

This July 1989 issue pairs Scott Free with the hapless Green Lantern G'nort in a combination that promises equal parts escape artistry and comedy — and the cover by McKone and Patterson delivers the premise perfectly. Mister Miracle stands arms-folded and coolly confident beside an older gentleman, both watching G'nort submerged upside-down in a water-escape tank, chained and padlocked, bubbles rising around his very worried face. The casual "Give 'im another minute…" exchange between the two onlookers sets the tone for the Giffen/DeMatteis brand of superhero humor that fans of their Justice League work will find right at home here.
