With Chop-Chop's dramatic claim of a secret poison that only spies can't withstand, each member is forced to drink a deceptively simple concoction of kitchen spices—only Hendrikson's stoic reaction betrays him. Written by Bill Woolfolk and illustrated with sharp, expressive art by Reed Crandall, this 1943 thriller blends wartime suspense with a clever, character-driven twist. The cover by Alex Kotzky captures the tension with a striking, shadowed portrait of the team’s divided loyalty.

In order to root out a Nazi look-alike of one of the Blackhawks who has infiltrated the team, Chop-Chop claims to have created a secret potion that is deadly poison to spies but not to an innocent man. Each of the suspects is brought into a room alone and forced to drink the concoction, which is actually just a mix of red-hot and plain horrible kitchen spices. All of the Blackhawks gag on the mixture, except for Hendrikson who pretends it doesn't bother him, revealing him to be the spy.
